For the first time ever, I was able to experience a recuiting-like situation from not the perspective of someone wanting a internship/job. Since I am interning at Ernst & Young this summer, the recruiter asked our intern class and the winter intern class if we wanted to attend a reception for the EY Emerging Leaders Program.
Just some quick information... The EY Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) used to be called the Summer Leadership Program (SLP). It's a two day get together between many EYers and prospective EYers where the firm gets to know you on a different level. It requires an interview, but if you are an accounting student looking for a way to get your foot in the door, then this would be a great way. Many firms have something like this. I attended the BKD one this year a couple of weeks ago.
Anyway, after a quick ice breaker, the reception started. Right away, I was approached by two IUPUI students. One of them knew me because of how much time I spend in the orange space, and another student actually reads this very blog (who knew?). Both of them were very interested in how I have an internship with EY so early and were asking lots of questions. It was a weird feeling not being nervous at this reception. After mingling around with the 26 students who came from 6 or 7 different schools, we were dimissed to get ready for a scavenger hunt. I served as a clue box during the hunt, and overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
All I know now is that I am really pumped about starting with EY.
