Top 100: Mallory Buha

Monday, March 19, 2018

In the days leading up to the IUPUI Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner, we will be featuring the Kelley students who were named among IUPUI’s Top 100 students in 2018.

What has been your favorite experience so far at Kelley?

Mallory: My favorite experience so far in the Kelley School of Business was Honors I-Core. Although it was my most challenging semester by far, after just starting my career in the Kelley Honors Program, I learned so much about myself and really grew as a business student. The reason this was my favorite experience was because of my incredible team. We all became so close and were always there for each other through the ups and downs of school and our personal lives. I made lifelong friends because of this experience, and I am so thankful for it.

What has been your favorite class and why?

My favorite class so far was Team Dynamics and Leadership. This class taught me so much about working in a team and understanding other cultures. I have such a strong passion for enhancing my knowledge of other cultures and this class was compatible with my passion. It was also my favorite class because of Professor Westerhaus-Renfrow. She made the class so fun and interactive. The nature of a class is determined by how the professor teaches it, and Professor Westerhaus-Renfrow created an environment where students wanted to be present and learn.

If you had to pick one professor who has impacted you the most while at Kelley, who would it be?

The professor that impacted me the most while at Kelley is Professor Mayer. I have taken very few classes where I have truly enjoyed going to every single class to learn, but advertising this semester is really a joy to go to. Professor Mayer brings so many real world examples and experiences to the classroom. His teaching is truly enjoyable and interactive, and I love learning in his class. He is very approachable and always willing to help whenever students need it. His teaching confirmed that I made the right decision when I chose marketing as my major.

Where do you see yourself after you graduate?

After I graduate, I see myself either going to graduate school to get an MBA or working in the marketing field.

Favorite activity/extracurricular activity that you have been involved in while at Kelley?

My favorite extracurricular activity that I have been involved in has been the IUPUI Women's Swimming team. I have had the opportunity to compete for the school with some of the best students, and it has truly been a blast. I have grown so close to my teammates and coaches, and it is an honor to represent IUPUI and the Kelley School of Business.

What is your advice to current Kelley students?

My advice to current Kelley students is to take advantage of every opportunity that Kelley provides. Also, it is never too late to get involved. I was a transfer student and decided to apply for the honors program during the second semester of my sophomore year. I am so glad I did because it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

What is your Kelley moment?

My Kelley moment was getting accepted into the Kelley Honors Program. I have been given so many opportunities through this program, and the Honors College led me to where I am in school and in my life right now. I have also met some of my closest friends through Honors I-Core. The people in the Kelley community and the Honors College are some of the best and brightest students, and it has truly been a privilege learning alongside them.
