Carly Herring is the Creative Designer for the Office of External Affairs. She started working at the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI in March 2018. Carly’s passion for graphic design first began when she took a graphic design class in high school. She decided to make design her career path, and graduated from the Herron School of Art at IUPUI with a degree in visual communication design.
Before Kelley, Carly worked at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital in the marketing department as graphic designer. She chose to join Kelley because she was ready for career advancement and it was the perfect opportunity for her. Her favorite part of her role is being able to create something new every day, along with the variety of her projects. Carly spearheads all graphic design and creative projects for the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI. Some examples of projects she's created are: postcards, billboards, Spotify ads, infographics, photography and video. She loves the support system she has at Kelley and feels she’s always learning something new and growing as a person and in her skills. When Carly first started in her position, she was less experienced in videography and has been able to cultivate her abilities through this role. She has also gained mentoring experience by leading two student interns, whom she’s very thankful for.
Carly’s first job was as a Fever Inferno WNBA dancer where she performed at the Indiana Fever’s home games at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse for 3 consecutive years. She started dancing when she was three and is trained in hip hop, ballet, tap, contemporary, musical theater and jazz; her favorite style is hip hop. Carly started her college career at Ball State University. During her freshman year, she received a call from an old dance friend who asked if she could teach dance classes in Avon. Carly accepted the position and started commuting from Muncie to Avon to teach. She grew to love both teaching and choreography and decided to transfer schools to be closer to home and the studio. Carly has a deep passion for choreography as well as teaching, and has received 6 choreography awards.
Outside of Kelley and the dance studio, Carly enjoys spending time with her family and her niece, Evie. She’s also a huge animal lover and has two cats named Mila and Kaiya and a dog named Juno. She likes staying connected with her friends from high school; she recently celebrated “Friendsgiving” with them. She also loves watching movies, going to concerts and the theatre, and making crafts.
The best piece of advice Carly’s ever received is that whatever you do, give 100%. Stay positive, give your work your all and do it with excellence.
